I'm going to the Philippines and meeting with the Philippine Australian Football Club. They're inviting a US team to participate in their Manila Cup next year (May 2013). I'm talking to Sacramento and Golden Gate as well to see if maybe we can have a combined team. You think there are guys who might be interested in going to the Philippines to play footy? Let me know. HelenI'm hoping some Lions can go to represent the USA! Let me know if you are interested and I'll connect you. - SCUBA

Lions Defeat Combined Austin/Vegas Squad
Austin traveled to San Diego this weekend with low numbers and combined with the Las Vegas Gamblers to take on the Lions. It was a hard fought game with the Lions and the Gambling Crows taking turns dominating quarters. The Austin/Vegas combined side came out with a strong start leading San Diego by couple of goals in the first quarter. San Diego battled back in the second to take the lead but struggled in the third, only barely managing to hold on to a one goal lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lions ultimately pulled away in the fourth quarter winning 12.6.78 to Austin/Vegas's 7.12.54.
Great effort by all teams and a big thanks to the Austin and Las Vegas guys for making the trip.

SCAFL Season End Party – San Diego Brewery Bus Tour!
SCAFL
season is over – let’s make the most of a few weeks off by having a
good old social. On Saturday 23 June the Lions are hosting a bus tour
of San Diego breweries. We’re not planning an educational trip so don’t
worry, you won’t have to spend hours listening to heavily bearded
brewmasters explain how they handle their nuts. This will just be a
relaxed party bus cruising around some of the best breweries in SD.
Plenty of beers on the bus, plenty of tasters at the breweries, and the
Lions out in force for a good time.
Details:
Pick-up: Noon,at PB Ale House (721 Grand Ave)
Drop-off: 6pm, back in PB (with a night out afterwards, obviously)
Cost: $30 per person for the bus
We're planning to visit 6 breweries in the Mira Mesa area if we can fit them all in.
Wives, girlfriends, boyfriends and mates all welcome. No need to pay in advance (cash on the day) but it would be very useful if you could either reply to this invite or email Sunshine at mark.sayer@gl-garradhassan.com if you want to come. The bus is limited to 30 places – first come first served.
Cheers

Having achieved all our stated goals last year, the Lions primary goal in 2012 is the Division-1, USAFL Championship.
SCUBA will be leading our traditional Torrey Pines Training Run, Thursday 5PM sharp. Park along Hwy. 101, and meet at front gate. We will begin by running along the beach to the point, then up the stairs, back by the road, and Guy Fleming trail.
Lions' Coach, Shaun Beattie, has asked the players to answer a few questions in writing. You can either bring them to practice, this Saturday 10AM, or email them to our President, Brandon Blankenship. The questions are these:
Please answer in detail the following questions and bring to next training.
- What do you bring to this team?
- What do you, as an individual, want to do/do better for the benefit of yourself and the team for 2012?
- What do you believe is the core strength of the Lions?
- List one thing that you believe as a team we can do better for ultimate success in 2012.

Season Kickoff and Pie Day - Feb 4
Happy New Year, Lions. Hope everyone managed to stay fit over the holidays, because the 2012 season is right around the corner. We're going to be kicking off the season with our first training session on Feb 4 at 10 am at the park across the street from the roller coaster in Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Bring your boots and your runners. After training, Bob and Jan will be hosting the club at their place at 1pm for Jan's famous home made meat pies and Bob's infamous home brewed beer. A $20 donation gets you a meat pie or maybe two if you're quick and all the beer you can drink (at least until Bob kicks us out).
The Lions board is hard at work putting together this year's game schedule. The SCAFL schedule is already finalized and published on the website, with the season opener on March 4 in Orange County. We expect this to be an exciting year as the Lions look to improve on their 2011 performance and bring home the Div 1 cup this year. See you all at training!
