Thursday Night Football Training Starts This Thursday

The Lions will hold the first of our weekly Thursday night training sessions this Thursday at North Clairemont Rec Center (4421 Bannock Avenue, San Diego, CA). Training starts at 6:30, then the boys will head down to our sponsor bar Boomerangs Gourmet Burger Joint for a beer and bite to eat afterward. This will be our last training session before the SCAFL season kickoff on March 4 in OC. Now's a great time to start training with the Lions if you've been thinking about trying out the sport.

Coach's Request: Commitment

With our first 2012 Metro-Game for the Southern California Australian Football League (SCAFL) coming up on Sunday, March 4th, the Lions are picking up new players and preparing for our season. Having achieved all our stated goals last year, the Lions primary goal in 2012 is the Division-1, USAFL Championship.

SCUBA will be leading our traditional Torrey Pines Training Run, Thursday 5PM sharp. Park along Hwy. 101, and meet at front gate. We will begin by running along the beach to the point, then up the stairs, back by the road, and Guy Fleming trail.

Lions' Coach, Shaun Beattie, has asked the players to answer a few questions in writing. You can either bring them to practice, this Saturday 10AM, or email them to our President, Brandon Blankenship. The questions are these:

Please answer in detail the following questions and bring to next training.
  1. What do you bring to this team?
  1. What do you, as an individual, want to do/do better for the benefit of yourself and the team for 2012?
  1. What do you believe is the core strength of the Lions?
  1. List one thing that you believe as a team we can do better for ultimate success in 2012.

Season Kickoff and Pie Day - Feb 4

Happy New Year, Lions. Hope everyone managed to stay fit over the holidays, because the 2012 season is right around the corner. We're going to be kicking off the season with our first training session on Feb 4 at 10 am at the park across the street from the roller coaster in Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Bring your boots and your runners. After training, Bob and Jan will be hosting the club at their place at 1pm for Jan's famous home made meat pies and Bob's infamous home brewed beer. A $20 donation gets you a meat pie or maybe two if you're quick and all the beer you can drink (at least until Bob kicks us out).

The Lions board is hard at work putting together this year's game schedule. The SCAFL schedule is already finalized and published on the website, with the season opener on March 4 in Orange County. We expect this to be an exciting year as the Lions look to improve on their 2011 performance and bring home the Div 1 cup this year. See you all at training!

Please make an effort to get there, even if it's only for an hour.  It's a great way to start supporting the Lions for next season, and besides I know you've all driven a longer distance than this for a meal in the last week.
