Game at Sacramento Confirmed!

Put it on your calendar:

August 2, 2014

Our first visit to Sacramento will consist of a Women's match at 10am and
The Lions vs Suns full match will start at 11:30am.

Travel details to follow in the coming days. Choose how you'd like to get there.
There will be a fair amount of us that will drive. Others on tight schedules might fly.

Of course, the Lions will hit the town post-game to maintain our "Best Off Ground" status.

Let Pokey or Brando know if you are able to make the trip.

If your budget is tight but would still like to make the trip,
talk to Pokey or Jimbo and we'll try to work something out.

GO LIONS!!

2014 Pie Day and Awards Presentation

Please join us for our Annual Pie Day!

We will meet at Jan and Bob's house once again for our annual Pie Day event. Along with Jan's AMAZING homemade authentic Australian meat pies and Bob's signature Wet Cement beer (had a sample the other night and it will be epic), we will be handing out the 2013 awards as well. It will be $25. Eat and drink until the pies and beer run out!

There will be the traditional coin toss game and a corn hole tournament as well.

It's always a fun time. We hope to see you there!

2014 San Diego Lions Dues

Hey Guys,

It's time again for you to show your support for the club by submitting your membership dues. This is the single most important fundraiser we have and it is imperative that you get these precious funds to us so we can continue to run the club in an effective manner.

Your dues allow the club to rent practice and match grounds, pay league dues (yes, the USAFL charges us to be in the league), pay for equipment and other things that pop up over the course of the season.

Your membership dues of $125 this year will include a training shirt, to be distributed at a later date (within the next month). As soon as they are ready, I will start to distribute them to those who have paid their dues.

Please use the paypal link above to submit your dues to the club as soon as possible.
Thanks a bunch guys!

Pokey's Rookie Camp: Dec. 7th @ 10AM, Belmont Park

Hey All,

I'll be holding a Footy Rookie Camp to introduce skills to a few new players (and those who might need a brush up) and wanted to invite you all to join as well.

Saturday December 7 at 10am at the ground across from the Belmont Park rollercoaster in Mission Beach.

Here are a few reasons you should come:

1) It'll be good to have a kick in the park with no pressure
2) Our illustrious coach, Shaun Beattie is back and will be there. Come welcome him back!
3) Bring your experience and passion for the game so the new guys know this is a worth while club to be a part of. (They'll join the Lions off the ground soon enough).
4) The more guys who show up, the stronger the club looks to the newer guys. The guys I'm bringing out are good athletes and good guys. We definitely want them around the club.
5) Bring anyone who has ever considered playing. Female as well.
6) Some of us can use a bit of handball and kicking practice. Even if you've been around a while, you can always work on disposals on your opposite foot/hand. There's always something to work on.

If there is someone I have missed, please forward this to them.

I hope you'll come out and support the club. Contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks guys.

Nationals Results: 2013

In the USAFL Grand Final, Austin Crows took Div. 1 on their home ground, over the Calgary Kangaroos (by just one point!). Leaving the OC Bombers winless, they were only Div. 1 team from Southern California.

Div. 2 had the Columbus Jackaroos upset the LA Dragons, that was a hard loss, as the dragons came prepared, Columbus just wanted the ball more desperately.

Huston ended up winning Division 3 over Sacramento Suns.

In a testament to their rapid development, new teams, the Houston Lonestars and the Sacramento Suns, headlined the Division 3 final with both teams competing in only their second ever Nationals tournament. The Lonestars defeated the Suns3.5.23 to 0.1.1. however, due to some rule confusion the Lonestars had played with 2 extra men on the field. The Suns only realized this in the dying seconds of the game which, unfortunately for them, was too late. - USAFL
Lions Results from day 2, Sunday:
San Diego 1. 1. 7
Houston 4.1. 25

Div. 4 had NC Tigers fell to Cincinnati Dockers.

Finally, the Lady Bulldogs from Denver cleaned out the San Francisco Iron Maidens. Leaving California with a goose egg for the weekend.http://usafl.com/nationals/2013/ladder

Nationals: DAY 1

After two ugly and frustrating games, Lions are ready for our next game against Huston in the morning. We had some problems meshing players who lack game time together, and communication was rough, but we struggled through somehow. If we can start playing like we've been practicing the last few weeks, Houston will fall.

On a ligher note, there were a couple of 'princess' birthdays at dinner tonight, as we consumed Texas BBQ at the Austin Iron Works. Jaydos and Saydo are apparently a year older. (Thanks to Bob, Pokey, Susan, Jimbo, and Shank for the cake).

Results from today's Nationals in Austin, TX.

San Diego 3.4. 22
Portland. 3.1. 19

San Diego 5.4. 34
Kansas City 4.2. 26

Division 3's Pool A currently has the Sacramento Suns and Philly Hawks with 2 wins a piece. These two teams will fight it out at 11am for a spot in the final... however, San Diego who are on top of Pool B as the only team with 2 wins also will need a win against Houston to secure their spot. - USAFL
